6th International Pike Challenge
Lough Allua – 14th of October 2006 |
 |
For the 6th time the pike fishing competition was held on Lough Allua , Inchigeelagh , Co. Cork .
With 18 entries from 6 different nations , this years fishing competition was a truly international affair , and all participants mixed well on 6 boats with 3 anglers each, ensuring a fair result . As usual the priority of the organizers has been the well being of all caught fish, and so all pike had to be returned to the waters straight away after being measured and weighed on the boat .
Although the overall results have been down from last years , the average size of pike being caught was still respectable, and the winner of the heaviest bag category, Michael Herpers from Stolberg,Germany, caught 3 decent pike, which secured him a bronze trophy in shape of a fishing boat .
The second price, a bronze statue of an angler holding a pike, was presented to Steven Kelleher of Macroom , who caught a 90cm pike on a jerk bait . Steven lost another “ cracker of a pike “, well over 20lbs, just before the landing net, but that’s fishing…

The prize for the best
boat crew went to Karl Gyoerfi, Hungary; George Adamczyk, Poland and Greg Latour , Inchigeelagh.
Traditionally the unfortunate angler who goes 'blank' is awarded a “special prize” and this year the “honour” fell to Jim Novotynski from Drinagh . Jim wasn’t too bothered as he previously won the longest fish category.
A date for the 7th Lough Allua Pike Challenge is yet to be fixed, but its certain that all participants will be back in 2007 .
All trophies & prizes were presented on a very mild and dry October day by a representative of our co-sponsors Lee Valley Country Store & Cafe,
Inchigeelagh.
The Pike Challenge was organized by the “ Tir na Spideoga Fishing lodge “ , Inchigeelagh,Co. Cork “
